The Statesboro-Bulloch Crime Suppression Team arrested 20 people Thursday night and early Friday on drug violations, outstanding arrest warrants and other charges.

Two of those arrests came during an investigation Thursday into the sale of heroin, according to a Bulloch County Sheriff's Office news release issued Friday morning.

Investigators went to a residence in the 100 block of Valley Road and made contact with a man and woman.
After further investigation, Vernard Andre Parker, 45, admitted to possessing several bags of heroin, the release says.

Michele Geis Parker, 48, was charged with possession and use of a drug-related object, and Vernard Parker was charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute and possession and use of a drug-related object, according to Bulloch County Jail records.

"These arrests," the news release says, "highlight changing trends in illegal drug sales and use in our community. A major focus of the (Crime Suppression Team) is the disruption of such trends.

The release also states that, through the night, Crime Suppression Team members arrested a total of 18 other individuals on charges ranging from outstanding arrest warrants to possession of various drugs with intent to distribute.

The Crime Suppression Team was formed Feb. 4 as a consolidation of the Statesboro Police Department's Crime Suppression Unit and the sheriff's office's Drug Suppression Team. The Georgia Southern University Police Department has since agreed to join the team.
