    BROOKLET — The Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets improved to 9-3 in Region 1-AAA with a 76-55 win at home over Pierce County.
    Prestopn Smith led the way with 20 points, Lamont Ballard added 15 and Markel Ming finished with 14.
    The Yellow Jackets are back in action today at 7:30 p.m., at Bryan County.

Blue Devils win defensive struggle
    HINESVILLE — Scoring was at a premium, but the Statesboro Blue Devils held off Liberty County 39-37 for a road win on Friday.
    The Blue Devils scored 20 first-half points, but both teams struggled to score in the final three quarters as Statesboro held on for the victory.
    Jaylan Rawles led SHS with 16 points and A'Keem Oglesby added 14.
Huge second half lifts Lady Tigers
    SAVANNAH — The Claxton Lady Tigers out scored Savannah Country Day 21-10 in the second half to pull away for a 53-38 win on Friday on the road.
    The Lady Tigers (17-3, 6-1 region 3A-A) were led by a Keri Brown Double-double. She finished with 20 points and 15 rebounds.
    Devonna Brewton added 12 points.

Liberty County edges SHS girls
    HINESVILLE — The Statesboro Lady Blue Devils had a furious second-half comeback cutting a 12-point deficit to four, but couldn't;t come all the way back before Liberty County won 53-47 on Friday in Hinesville.
    Shanikwa Buie led Statesboro with 15 points.
    Statesboro is back in action today at 6, at home against Bradwell Institute.
Claxton edges Country Day
    SAVANNAH — The Claxton Tigers pulled out a close, 49-46 win on Friday against Savannah Country Day on the road.
    Cornelious Taylor did much of the damage offensively for Claxton (9-9, 4-3 Region 3A-A) with 21 points.

Lady Jackets fall to Pierce County
    BROOKLET — The Southeast Bulloch Lady Yellow Jackets fell at home Friday to Pierce County, 55-48.
    Southeast Bulloch was led by Jasmine Roberts, who scored 21 points.
    The Jackets are back in action today on the road at Bryan County at 6 p.m.

SHS JV knocks off Liberty
    HINESVILLE — The Statesboro junior varsity Blue Devils knocked off Liberty County 50-43 on the road Friday.
    Deontae Whitfield and Miles White each scored 10 points for Statesboro.
    The Blue Devils (13-1) play host to Bradwell Institute today.

BA elementary soccer open to public
    Bulloch Academy will hold a community-wide soccer program for students in prekindergarten through fifth grade.
    “We had a great response from our students last year,” said BA coach Anamecia Torres, “and we wanted to open it up to the community. The boys and girls will be able to learn the fundamentals of the game and meet new people too.”
    Registration for the two-month program begins Jan. 27 and runs through Feb. 7.         Evaluations will be held on Feb. 10 and the season starts on Feb. 24. Practices and games will be held at the Gator practice fields on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3:15-4:30 p.m. Registration fee is $65 per student.
