GSU's Frye earns academic honor
CLEVELAND, Ohio —Georgia Southern offensive tackle Garrett Frye was one of 43 winners of the 16th annual Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star Team AS announced by the FCS ADA on Friday.
Frye, a junior exercise science major, has a 3.75 cumulative grade point average after being named to GSU’s President’s List for earning a 4.0 GPA for the fall 2013 semester.
Frye was recognized as an All-American by several organizations for his efforts on the field and was named as a member of the Academic All-Conference team by the Southern Conference last month. Frye, a two-year starter, helped the Eagle offense produce the top team rushing total in NCAA Division I in each of the last two seasons.        Three conferences had six student-athletes named to the All-Star Team — the Missouri Valley Football Conference, Ohio Valley Conference and the Southern Conference.
