A Statesboro woman has been charged with 80 counts, including 40 counts of financial identity fraud, in connection with at least two victims, according to the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office.

A resident of Woodshole Circle notified sheriff's investigators Dec. 19 that his checking account had been compromised and used to make multiple purchases from Amazon.com. After obtaining court orders for information from Amazon, Investigator Dusty Williams was able to identify the location where the merchandise had been shipped - an apartment in Foxridge Apartments complex under the name of a male.

Deputies executed a search warrant on the apartment and seized multiple items purchased with the fraudulently obtained information. Shabrina Maybell Fields, 23, of Packinghouse Road, was taken into custody at that time, Sheriff Lynn Anderson said in a news release issued Tuesday morning.

Subsequent investigation into the male subject to whom the property had been shipped revealed that he had also been a victim of Fields' identify theft and that Fields had used his name and address to take receipt of the stolen merchandise, Anderson said.

Fields is charged with 40 counts of financial identity fraud; 37 counts of printing, executing or negotiating fictitious checks; two counts of financial transaction card fraud; and one count of providing false statements and writings.

She is currently held at the Bulloch County Jail with no bond pending further judicial proceedings.

Anderson encourages all citizens to closely monitor their bank and credit card information so they can detect identity theft early.
