SEB offense disappears in 26-0 loss to Vidalia

BROOKLET — Only three plays were run before lightning delayed play for nearly two hours as Southeast Bulloch (1-2) could not put together anything on offense and the visiting Vidalia Indians (2-0) shut down the Yellow Jackets 26-0 on a rain-soaked Fred Shaver Field.

The SEB defense was able to hold Vidalia to a turnover-on-downs on the five minute, 30 second game-opening drive that ended on the SEB 14-yard line, but was forced to spend much of the rest of the game on the field as the Jacket offense put up only seven yards in the first half and did not get a first down until the fourth quarter.

Vidalia was able to expose the worn-down SEB defense as the game progressed.

Indian quarterback Terrance Jackson completed only one first-quarter pass, but it was a big one. Already leading 7-0, the SEB defensive line chased Jackson out of the pocket and he launched a 49-yard pass to waiting VHS fullback Tavaris Beecham.

Each team turned over the ball once, both times on fumbles, but Southeast Bulloch was unable to capitalize when it recovered a fumble on the Vidalia 31-yard line. Two incomplete passes and two false-start penalties halted the drive.

Yellow Jacket running back Tharon Davis, who had a breakout performance in SEB’s 34-7 win over Portal scoring three times and rushing for 197 yards in the contest, was held to only 22 yards on 12 carries.

Southeast was finally able to put together some offense in the fourth quarter with 3:58 remaining, but it was too late. Quarterback Joe Davis completed two passes for 41 yards and Tharon Davis carried it twice for 17 yards, but four straight incomplete passes downfield halted the drive.
