Metter resident receives horse for use in 2007 Gelding Mentoring Program

Metter resident Jacob Bowen, whose family owns Red Wagon Farm and raises American Miniature Horses, was recently selected to participate in the International American Miniature Horse Alliance (IAMHA)  “2007 Gelding Mentoring Program.”
Applications were accepted from youth ages 8 – 18 from all parts of the country. Bowen was one of 12 youth selected to receive an American Miniature gelding (a male horse that has been neutered) for use in the program.
According to a press Release from the IAMHA headquarters in Santa Fe, Texas, the geldings are provided by IAMHA founding member farms  and are registered and show quality specimens.
The reason behind the program is to "demonstrate the joys of American Miniature Horse ownership and the excitement of exhibition for all that are involved," according to the program spokesman.
Bowen will be required to provide care, housing and training of the gelding for  two years and exhibit it at local, regional and national shows. Afterward, the gelding will be transferred into his name.
"Jacob will be traveling to Texas the first weekend in October to pick up his gelding," said his mother, Julie Karpinsky. "We, as a family, raise miniature horses, but Jacob will be leading us into the show ring. "
Red Wagon Farm, located in Metter, specializes in show quality miniature horses. For more information on the farm, access Internet web site www.redwagonminis.com. For more information on the IAMHA program, access Internet web site www.iamha.net.
