8 arrested for not paying child support

Editor's note: Because of ongoing computer system problems at the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office, the mug shots of the suspects were not available Tuesday.

Bulloch County sheriff's deputies arrested several people Tuesday who were wanted for nonpayment of child support, and more arrests are expected as the roundup continues.

"Beginning in the early morning hours (Tuesday), deputies assigned to the Court Services Division of the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office partnered with other deputies to serve child support lockup orders issued by the Superior Court of Bulloch County," said Bulloch County Sheriff Lynn Anderson.

Warrants for arrest, also known as "lockup orders," are
issued after people who have been ordered to pay child support "fail to do so for a significant period of time
and accrue large debts," he said.

As of noon Tuesday, deputies arrested eight people whom Anderson said owe a "combined $100,000 worth of child support obligations."

The following were arrested Tuesday:

- Latricia Graham, U.S. Highway 80 West, Portal;
- Kenneth Humphries, South Walnut Street;
- Montreal Jones, Becky Drive;
- Leonard Lynn, Stephens Little Road;
- Shannon Manley, Eldora Road, Ellabell;
- Marvin Perkins, Pamela Way;
- Jerry Roberts, West Inman Street; and
- Paul Walden, Pamela Way.

Further arrests are expected as the roundup continues, Anderson said.

Ages and photographs of those arrested were not available Tuesday because of computer system problems the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office and jail have experienced for more than a week, according to Bulloch County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Jared Akins.

Out of dozens of warrants, 26 people wanted for nonpayment of child support were determined to have moved out of the county. Those warrants were returned to the court, Anderson said.

"Deputies will continue searching for several more individuals throughout (today)," he said. "All arrested individuals will go before a Superior Court judge (today) for a disposition on their cases."

Those arrested today and afterward will go before the judge at a later date.
