Two men have been charged in connection with a series of store burglaries across Bulloch County, the sheriff's office said.

It started at 2:44 a.m. Thursday, when deputies responded to Zip in Foods #11 in Leefield in response to an alarm. The store's video footage showed that two suspects had tried to enter the store, Sheriff Lynn Anderson said in a news release issued Monday.

Minutes later, sheriff's Cpl. Travis Tuenge was patrolling other stores and discovered the alarm going off at the Clito Store, in the 5000 block of Georgia Highway 24. The door had been shattered and the store's cash drawer removed, Anderson said.

Investigators processed both scenes for evidence and recovered video showing the suspects' vehicle, the sheriff said.

At 12:01 a.m. Friday, deputies responded to Stilson Country Corner, in the 8000 block of U.S. Highway 80 East, in response to an alarm activation. Deputies again discovered the front door smashed and a cash drawer taken.

Later Friday, investigators were contacted by a citizen who stated that he had found one of the cash drawers on Floyd Clark Road off of Highway 24. Investigators canvassed the area for any vehicles matching the one driven by the suspects and discovered an identical one nearby at a residence in the 3000 block of Deer Run Road, Anderson said.

Investigators received consent to search the residence and found items taken from the Country Corner burglary, the sheriff said.

Further interviews led to the arrests of Denzail Jerrico McBride, 21, of Deer Run Road; and Dejuan Jamal Jackson, 20, of South Foss Street, on two counts of smash-and-grab burglary and one count of criminal attempt to commit smash-and-grab burglary.

Both McBride and Jackson are held pending further judicial action at the Bulloch County Jail.
