Newest Statesboro Legend in the Arts honored Thursday night

Text Size: Small Large Medium
The newest Statesboro Legend in the Arts is being honored in an induction ceremony at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the Averitt Center for the Arts. Commissioned by the Statesboro Arts Council, local artist, Collin Smith is unveiling an exhibit that he has created and developed tirelessly in the inductee’s honor.
“There are few figures from the small city of Statesboro as famous as this legend,” Smith said. “And for those of you questioning who he is, perhaps you would know him better as the man that practically put Statesboro on the map of the world in terms of music.”
A pioneer of early southern blues music, this year’s Statesboro Legend has been a source of inspiration to many great musicians including The Allman Brothers, Bob Dylan, and The White Stripes. And while much is known about his impact as a musician, very little is discussed about the man who spent much of his life dealing with both adversity and success.
The exhibit is being displayed in the Statesboro Legends Gallery on the second floor of the Averitt Center for the Arts. The public is invited to attend the unveiling of the exhibit that commemorates the life of such a gifted and timeless musician.
