Georgia Southern University police officers helped catch two armed robbery suspects Friday night minutes after Statesboro police gave descriptions of the suspects.

In responding to The Pointe at Southern to assist Statesboro officers, GSU police stopped a gray Chevrolet Impala on Mike-Ann Drive that contained suspects matching those descriptions, Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said.

The man and woman, John Willie Jones, 28, of Forbes Street in Wadley, and Danequa Niquez Williams, 21, of Burten Drive in Wadley, were both arrested on charges of armed robbery and possession of tools for the commission of a crime.

Statesboro police were dispatched around 10 p.m. Friday to The Pointe at Southern, where an armed robbery had just been reported, Turner said.

"The victim described the suspects as a black male and a black female and gave detailed clothing descriptions for each," he said. "She also described the vehicle the suspects were driving as a gray Chevy Impala."

The suspects held the female victim at gunpoint outside the apartment complex, taking a purse, cash and undisclosed personal items, he said. The victim was not injured and the weapon used was later found to not be a real gun.

While responding to the area, Statesboro officers were notified by radio that GSU officers had stopped suspects matching the given descriptions.

"During the traffic stop, (Williams) fled on foot but was apprehended by Georgia Southern officers after a short foot-chase," Turner said. "Statesboro police arrived on Mike-Ann Drive and took the suspects into custody (and) property linking the two suspects to the robbery was located."

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Statesboro police Detective Sgt. James Winskey at (912) 764-9911.

Anonymous tips may be submitted online at or by sending a text message beginning with "TIPSSPD" to 274637 (CRIMES). All information is strictly confidential, Turner said.
