The Statesboro Service League’s Attic Sale will have a new time, but same charitable cause in 2013.

The 40th annual event is scheduled for Saturday from 7-11 a.m. at the Kiwanis Ogeechee Fairgrounds, nearly one month sooner than its traditional date — a move was necessitated by the Kiwanis Ogeechee Fair being scheduled one week later than usual this year.

Members of the Service League have once again collected hundreds of items throughout the year to be sold and used as means for funding charities and service projects.

“The Attic Sale is basically a huge garage sale. It is our one and only fundraiser of the year,” said Kathy Yawn, the chairwoman of the 2013 Attic Sale. “The funds that we raise at our Attic Sale fund all of our project work. The sale determines how much we will be able to do for folks.”

Proceeds from the event will support Safe Haven, Gateway Girls, Joseph’s Home for Boys, Kids Kloset/Fostering Bulloch, Relay for Life, the Alzheimer’s Walk and more.

Entry to the fairgrounds will be $3.

Items featured in the sale will include furniture, bedding, home accessories, clothing and toys; the one-day market will even include a row boat and golf cart tires.

“This year, we even have kitchen sinks,” Yawn said. “So, we will be selling everything, including the kitchen sink.”

League members suggest arriving early because people begin lining up well before the 7 a.m. opening.

Tickets will be sold at six admissions windows; a 50/50 Raffle will be held before the sale; and food wagons — loaded with drinks, doughnuts, sausage rolls, popcorn and more — will be on hand throughout the morning.

Yawn encouraged people to visit the Statesboro Service League website,, or a Facebook event page created for the sale to learn more about the event.
