Police: Car fire appears to be arson

A Sunday morning vehicle fire is being investigated as arson, Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said.

Statesboro police and firefighters were called to The Avenue at Southern around 6:30 a.m. Sunday after someone reported a vehicle was on fire, he said.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze and found evidence the fire was deliberately set. Turner said no one was injured.

Anyone with information concerning this case is asked to contact Criminal Investigations Bureau at the Statesboro Police Department at (912) 764-9911.

Anonymous tips may be submitted online at or by sending a text message beginning with "TIPSSPD" to 274637 (CRIMES). All information is strictly confidential, Turner said.
