EGSC to hold investiture for new president

Robert “Bob” G. Boehmer

The investiture of East Georgia State College’s fifth president, Robert “Bob” G. Boehmer, will be held Friday morning.
Scheduled to be held in the Luck Flanders Gambrell Center Auditorium, guests are being asked to be seated by 10:40 a.m.
An investiture ceremony is typically held within a college president’s first 18 months of service. It is a formal celebration and recognition of the new chief executive. The University System of Georgia’s Board of Regents named Boehmer the president of EGSC on Nov. 14, 2012.
Before becoming the college president, Boehmer served as professor of legal studies in the Terry College of Business and was senior administrator at the University of Georgia for approximately 23 years. Before his senior administrative roles at UGA, he was co-director of UGA’s Lilly Teaching Fellows Program for 10 years. When he arrived at EGSC, Boehmer was UGA’s associate provost for academic planning.
Boehmer now serves as a trustee of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools’ Commission on Colleges and is a member of the commission’s executive committee. He is currently the chairman of the University System’s General Education Council. Previously, he was the chairman of the University System’s Advisory Committee on Effectiveness and Accreditation.
His service to students was recognized by the Lee Anne Seawell Award for Service to Students. His research has been recognized by the Hoeber award for excellence in research from the American Business Law Journal for his research comparing U.S. privacy law with data protection law in the European Union.
He holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University Of Oregon School Of Law, and his undergraduate degree is in finance. Before becoming a faculty member at UGA in 1989, Boehmer practiced law in Oregon for more than 10 years and was a partner in the Hershner, Hunter law firm in Eugene, Ore.
He has been married to Joyce Boehmer since 1973, and they have two adult daughters: Megan is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology now working as an assistant vice president for a large bank in Portland, Ore. Beth graduated with an architecture degree from the University of Oregon and is working as a project manager in Eugene. Joyce Boehmer recently retired from the Clarke County School District.
Participating in the investiture will be EGSC Foundation trustees; Swainsboro Police Department Color Guard, under the direction of Chief Randy Ellison; East Georgia Gospel Choir; college Student Ambassadors; EGSC Student Government Association; the college President’s Cabinet; University System of Georgia Chancellor Hank Huckaby; and delegate representatives from 24 colleges and universities.
Randy Roderick & Associates and Herff Jones Statesboro, developed and donated Boehmer’s regalia. This marks the first time an East Georgia president has worn regalia developed specifically using the college’s colors. The college extends special thanks to George’s Flower Shop and Whitfield Farms and Nursery.
A reception honoring President and Mrs. Boehmer will follow in the Quad.
