Incumbent City Councilman Will Britt, District 3, qualified Thursday afternoon for reelection. Britt was originally elected to the council in 2003 and is looking to retain his seat. Qualifying for city council elections began Monday and, so far, each district has at least two candidates. Districts 2, 3, and 5 are slated for the election, to be held November 6th. Today is the last day for candidates to qualify as a candidate for the upcoming election. All paperwork and the $225 application fee must be turned in to Judy McCorkle, City Clerk, by 4:30 p.m. To eligible to vote in November's city election, voters must be registered no later than October 9th.
