A 44-year-old man was arrested after he failed to register as a sex offender, according to the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office.

Terry McCollum was charged with failure to register as a sex offender after the sheriff's office received "a tip by an alert citizen," which prompted an investigation by Capt. Todd Hutchens, Sheriff Lynn Anderson said in a news release issued Wednesday.

McCollum was required to notify the sheriff's office of changes to his residence and employment based on a 2000 conviction in North Carolina for taking indecent liberties with a child, but he did not make those notifications after making recent changes to both, Anderson said.

The Georgia Sex Offender Registry says McCollum has an address on Twin Forks Road in Statesboro. According to the registry, he was convicted in North Carolina on July 28, 2000, and last registered in Georgia on Dec. 1, 2010.
McCollum is being held without bond in the Bulloch County Jail.

Anderson reminded residents that they can view local sex offenders on the sheriff's office website,, or by using and searching Bulloch County.

Anderson encouraged anyone who believes a sex offender is not in compliance with registry requirements to contact Hutchens at (912) 764-1787, or submit an anonymous tip to
