Robbery suspect arrested after fleeing traffic stop

Jeremy Tyrelle Jackson

A man wanted for an armed robbery in May was arrested early Wednesday after he ran from a traffic stop, police said.

Officer Jared Shababy tried to stop a vehicle after it was seen violating an unspecified traffic law at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday at Fair Road and Brannen Street, Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said in a news release issued Thursday.

The vehicle stopped, but two occupants ran in different directions. After a foot chase that went for several blocks, officers Jason Borne and Shababy apprehended Jeremy Tyrelle Jackson, 19, of East Main Street, Turner said.

Officers recovered stolen property and marijuana from Jackson, who also was wanted for an armed robbery that took place May 3 at a mobile home park on Pamela Way, Turner said.

Police do not know the identity and location of the other person who fled, Turner said, adding that the case is still under investigation.

According to a Statesboro police incident report posted on crimereports.com, a man told police he was robbed at gunpoint by someone he doesn't know at about 7 p.m. May 3 in North Point mobile home park, in the 100 block of Pamela Way. He did not report the holdup until May 6, the report states.

Jackson was charged with one count each of armed robbery, possession of a firearm during commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, theft by receiving stolen property and misdemeanor possession of marijuana, and two counts of obstruction of a law enforcement officer.

Anyone with information concerning this case is asked to contact the Investigations Bureau at the Statesboro Police Department at (912) 764-9911.
