Two men were arrested early Thursday morning, and several stolen items were recovered, after the Statesboro Police Department intensified its focus on the string of vehicle break-ins and burglaries that have taken place in recent months, police said.

The Crime Suppression Unit was deployed to focus on these property crimes. At 2 a.m. Thursday, Crime Suppression Unit investigators saw four suspicious black men walking in the area of Donehoo and East Inman streets, Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said in a news release issued Friday.

When the investigators tried to make contact with the men, they fled, and a foot chase ensued. Statesboro patrol officers and Bulloch County sheriff's deputies immediately responded to the area.

Statesboro police arrested San Antonio Branch, 31, of Sparta, and Timothy Levon Coleman, 18, of Lanier Drive. Officers from both agencies conducted a thorough search of area. Several items of stolen property were recovered.

No injuries occurred during this incident, Turner said, adding that the arrests of Branch and Coleman are an example of the continuing cooperation between the police department and sheriff's office.

The police department's Investigations Bureau secured a search warrant for a home, where more stolen property was recovered.

So far, six cases have been linked to the suspects and the recovered property, Turner said.

He said those cases are: burglaries on Robin Hood Trail that occurred on June 17 and July 10, a July 14 burglary on South Edgewood Drive, a burglary and vehicle break-in that occurred Tuesday on Granade Street, and a burglary that occurred Thursday on Donehoo Street.

The case detective for these cases is Detective Sgt. James Winskey.

Branch and Coleman are being held at the Bulloch County Jail awaiting further court action. Both are charged with five counts each of burglary and one count each of entering auto. This case is currently under investigation and more charges are expected, Turner said.

Anyone with information concerning this case is asked to contact Winskey at the Statesboro Police Department at (912) 764-9911.
