This month's First Friday downtown will celebrate school spirit and the upcoming football season.

The event, scheduled for 5:30-8 p.m. on the courthouse lawn, is First Friday’s sixth annual Downtown Pep Rally.

Local sports broadcaster Tommy Palmer will welcome the coaches, football players, cheerleaders and band members from Statesboro, Southeast Bulloch and Portal high schools and Bulloch Academy to help get Statesboro ready for the 2013 high school football season.

Jeff Monken, the head football coach of the Georgia Southern Eagles, and the GSU cheerleaders will also be there to get everyone excited for the university's upcoming football season, the last in the Southern Conference in the Football Championship Subdivision before moving up to the Sun Belt Conference in the Football Bowl Subdivision.

This fun-filled evening will have performances by each school, a bounce house for the younger kids and plenty of vendors with goods for people to enjoy.

For more information about the event, call (912)764-7227.
