Three women and a man a witness said were seen shoplifting from Hibbett Sports were arrested recently on felony shoplifting charges, police said.

The suspects, all from Wadley in Jefferson County, reportedly shoplifted more than $3,000 worth of merchandise from several businesses in the city and elsewhere, Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said.

Around 4 p.m. July 23, Statesboro police officers responded to Statesboro Mall after someone with Hibbett Sports said a group of subjects was seen shoplifting in the store, Turner said. "Officer Ryan Norton arrived on scene and made contact with two subjects in a vehicle outside the mall that fit the description of the two of the shoplifters."

Upon further investigation, Norton arrested the two suspects, Lakeidrea Janea Thomas and Dekenbye Cortez Hannah, both 20 and of Wadley, Turner said.

Then, officers executed a search warrant on the vehicle Thomas and Hannah were in and recovered several items in the vehicle that were stolen from various retail establishments in Statesboro and other cities, Turner said.

The case was then turned over to Statesboro police Detective Kevin Weatherly, who "identified and located two other suspects involved in the incident," Turner said.

Etweice Shaquail Thomas, 26, and Stepnie R. Boathwright, 36, both of Wadley, were arrested Monday.

All were charged with felony shoplifting. Etweice Thomas was also charged with possession of tools for the commission of a crime, while Boathwright was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Anyone with information concerning this case is asked to contact Weatherly at (912) 764-9911.
