Two charged in Brooklet rape

Police: Suspects did not know intoxicated victim

A woman who was raped in Brooklet Saturday night was "too intoxicated to walk" and did not know the two suspects charged in the incident, police said.

Quentin Antonio Young, 21, Chandler Road, and Jermaine Denardo Thomas, 20, G. W. Oliver Spur,  turned themselves in Sunday, said Brooklet Police Chief Donnie Mincey.

The two met the 18-year-old victim at a friend's house on Cone Street sometime between 12:30 a.m. and 1 a.m. early Sunday morning "and took her to another residence ... on Mallard Lane," he said. The woman, who was "extremely intoxicated and couldn't walk by herself," did not know either man, he said.

The two raped the victim while she was in an extremely intoxicated state, but during the incident she recovered consciousness and realized what was happening, he said.

"She got up when she came to and ran out of the house naked," he said. Some friends of hers down the street discovered her and called police, he said.

Officer D. E. Hagan and Det. Tom Woodrum responded and began an investigation, he said.

Young and Thomas, upon learning they were being sought in the incident, turned themselves in later Sunday, he said.

They are being held in  the Bulloch County Jail without bond on charges of rape, according to jail records.

Mincey said investigators know the victim was intoxicated by alcohol but are awaiting blood tests to determine whether she was under the influence of any other substance, such as a date rape drug, he said.
