Local addiction counselors recognized for their work

    Two area addiction counselors were recently recognized through awards and accreditation.
    Cindy Bohler Howard, co-owner of Bulloch Recovery Resources with her husband, Vern Howard, was named a Georgia Addiction Counselors Association Certified Clinical Supervisor.
    Bulloch Recovery Resources is a treatment provider for the Bulloch County DUI Court program.
    Tim Strickland, with Damascus Rehab, affiliated with Bulloch Recovery, was named Counselor of the Year as a licensed professional counselor.
    Cindy Howard was awarded Clinical Supervisor with certification to manage and supervise counselors who practice in the substance abuse field. She heads up the Bulloch County DUI Court treatment portion, is active in Georgia Addiction Counselors Association, is an avid amateur photographer, and is recognized on the state level for expertise in her field.
    “All who know Cindy know she and her treatment staff are highly educated and compassionate for the alcoholic/addict clients and their families,” Vern Howard said. “For more than two decades, Cindy has counseled many families and substance abuse clients back to healthy lives.  She is the ‘go-to’ person for anyone seeking help with alcohol and/or drugs or any issue at any time.”
    Strickland is co-founder of Damascus House, LPC , along with Vern Howard, a National Certified Addiction Counselor and Substance Abuse Professional, and Steve Mooney. All three are Relapse Prevention Specialists.
    Strickland has a master's degree in counseling, is a Certified Clinical Supervisor and Licensed Professional Counselor.
    “He has been the backbone of research and treatment in the field of substance abuse and dependence, as well as a key member of our treatment team,” Vern Howard said. 
    “Our office applauds his extra efforts, educational background, research, advocacy, effective treatment with our clients as evidenced by efficacy reports.”
