A former Statesboro police chief and veteran law enforcement officer has been named the new police chief for Ogeechee Technical College.

OTC President Dr. Dawn Cartee recently announced that Stan York is the college's director of safety and security and chief of police.

York has been in law enforcement for the past 38 years and started his career in his hometown of Tifton. He later moved to Statesboro, where he was with the Statesboro Police Department for 34 years, the last 8½ years as the police chief, until his retirement in June 2010.

York served as the director of police services for the Sandersville Police Department from August 2010 through August 2012.

York's experience with police agencies includes administrative oversight, mentoring executive staff, providing guidance and direction in modern police concepts and best practices in law enforcement. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va., and Columbus State University Command College.

Ogeechee Tech maintains a Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training certified police agency, which is responsible for law enforcement at all of the college's campuses and centers.

"We are fortunate to have someone with Stan's expertise leading our police department. He will help ensure that our students, employees and visitors are protected while on campus," Cartee said.

York served as president of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police from 2011-2012. He is married to Kathryn Smith York and has one daughter, Jordana L. York Childree.
