Outdoor Life: The old gray mare ain't what she used to be

Recently, following a rocky encounter with my chainsaw, I moaned this very phrase to my oldest daughter and she looked at me with a blank stare.  I should mention that she is a college graduate and much smarter than her old man (which is no great feat) but was clueless as to the meaning of this grand old expression.  I had not planned to explain this axiom to you today but it seems that if a reader of this column is less than twenty five years of age there exists the distinct possibility that clarification is necessary.
