Margaret Ruth Smoak and John Irvine Hagan II, both of Statesboro, were united in marriage on Saturday, June 23, 2007, during a 3 p.m. ceremony at the Baptist Church of Beaufort. Dr. Harry Rowland officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Bill and Karen Smoak of Beaufort, S.C., and is the granddaughter of Ruth Smoak and the late Earl Smoak of Beaufort and Ansel Satterfield and the late Margaret Satterfield of Simpsonville, S.C.
The groom is the son of John and Dixie Hagan of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and is the grandson of Harold Hagan and the late Grace Hagan of Ellabell and Frankie Garrick of Atlanta and the late Emory Garrick of Brooklet.
Given in marriage by her father, Bill Smoak, the bride wore a fully gathered, strapless, white organza gown with a princess skirt. The top of the gown was made of a matte satin inlay that had a basque waist with front center drop made of embroidered lace appliques topped with clear glass beads and miniature white pearls throughout. Matching appliques were also throughout the bottom edge and continuing to a cathedral-length train. The bride carried a hand-held mass style bouquet of white vendela rosita roses.
Sarah Smoak of Los Angeles, Calif., was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Julia Day of Pendleton, S.C., and Jane Hawley of Anderson, S.C. The attendants wore sweet pea colored, matte satin A-line gowns with pleated chiffon necklines and shoulder straps. Chiffon streamers at the back of the gown added a look of sophistication and elegance.
John Hagan was his son’s best man. Groomsmen were Jeffrey Hagan of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Lee Holland, Brad Krabbe and Jerome Baisden, all of Atlanta; Charles Rehm of Woodstock, Ga., and Brian Adams of Dawsonville, Ga.
Following the ceremony at the church, a reception was held at Dataw Island Club.
The couple honeymooned on St. Simons Island and now resides in Statesboro.
