A man was hospitalized Thursday after being beaten in the face, and the man deputies say is responsible is behind bars.

Bulloch County sheriff's deputies responded to an Old Register Road home Thursday regarding an 18-year-old male victim suffering from "significant blunt force injuries to the face," Sheriff Lynn Anderson said.

"The victim was transported by EMS to East Georgia Regional Medical Center and later transferred to Memorial Health (University Medical Center) in Savannah for follow-up care," he said.

Witnesses told deputies Zachary Stephens McBroom, 19, of New Turner Drive, Swainsboro, "entered the victim's home and physically assaulted the victim before fleeing the scene," he said.

Deputies found McBroom on Georgia Avenue in Statesboro, charged him with aggravated battery and underage possession of alcohol, and took him to the Bulloch County Jail.
