A man suspected of automobile break-ins and other charges fled from deputies Thursday, but after a brief chase,  he ended up behind bars, police said.
James Jason Tanner, 32, of Jet Drive, is being held without bond in the Bulloch County Jail on charges of entering auto, 10 counts of financial identity fraud, theft by taking firearm, financial transaction card theft and obstruction.
Heather Kristi Tanner, 30, of Jet Drive, was charged with obstruction and released on bond.
Deputies responded Tuesday to Iler Road after someone reported checks, a credit card, and a gun were stolen from a vehicle.
“The complainant stated the checks and credit card has been used at several locations in Screven and Bryan counties,” Bulloch County Sheriff Lynn Anderson said. “Investigators were able to obtain video surveillance showing a male subject using the stolen items.”
After James Tanner was identified as the suspect, sheriff’s investigators stopped his wife, Heather, on Thursday at Walgreen’s on Northside Drive East, Anderson said.
Heather Tanner was arrested after giving false information as to her husband’s location, but investigators spotted James Tanner “on foot nearby and he fled,” Anderson said, adding that he was captured a short distance later behind Walgreen.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Investigator Jason Long at (912) 764-1747, or submit an anonymous tip to
Holli Deal Bragg may be reached at (912) 489-9414.
