Slumping Eagles on the road again

Georgia Southern  heads north for a three-game weekend series against Western Carolina in Cullowhee, N.C., opening with a 5 p.m. first pitch today and continuing on Saturday with a 4 p.m. game and a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday.
The Eagles will send a rotation of Justin Hess (today), Jason Richman (Saturday) and a pitcher to be named later on Sunday.
Western Carolina will counter with Jeremy Null, Morgan McKinney and Jordan Smith.
Georgia Southern (21-16, 10-8) is looking to snap its current five-game losing streak. The Eagles last win came on April 9, at Charleston Southern.
GSU is hitting just .164 with four extra-base hits during its current slump.
The Eagles have tallied just 27 hits and scored eight runs in their last five games.
Georgia Southern holds a 55-45 edge in the 100 game all-time series against the Catamounts after winning the series in Statesboro a year ago.
GSU head coach Rodney Hennon is 26-20 against his alma mater as the Eagles’ skipper.
Stryker Brown hit GSU’s first home run in the month of April on Wednesday against Kennesaw State and combined with Robbie Dodds for the team’s first multi-homer game since March 24.
The trio of T.D. Davis, Chase Griffin and Ben Morgan have combined for 16 of the team’s 23 home runs.

Chase Griffin has started all 37 games behind the plate for the Eagles this season. In his two-year career, Griffin has started 84 times as the team’s catcher. He and first baseman T.D. Davis are the only two Eagles to start every game this season at the same position.
