Southern Gospel Music Fest begins

Beaver Run RV Park in Excelsior will host the second annual Southern Gospel Music Fest this weekend.
The Gospel Fest, which begins today and runs through Sunday, will be held under the music pavilion and will showcase musicians from all over Georgia. Groups returning from last year’s event include the Bland Family of Glennville, Jennifer Mansell, Bob Matthews, and Your Hope of the Central Savannah River Area Southern Gospel Music Association. Local talent includes Jimmy and Lucille Page of “The Boomer” (103.7 FM) and “Great Gospel” (1360 AM) radio stations in Metter; Ty Hodges; and Eddy Jones.   Jones will also be the emcee of the weekend, as he portrays his comedic character “Percy Peabody.”
Park owners Jim and Shelley Savage were encouraged by the feedback from last year’s festival, and they hope that this year’s event will be equally well received.
“Last year’s Fest was a sweet time of peace and fellowship and an answer to prayers,” Shelley Savage said.
The Gospel Fest will be held from 6-10 p.m. today, 2-10 p.m. Saturday and finish Sunday with a pancake breakfast starting at 8 a.m. and a worship service at 9:30-10:30 a.m.
The Rev. Bo Fulginiti, the youth pastor at Cedar Street Baptist Church, will deliver the message today, and the Rev. Mike Clements, the pastor of New Life Baptist Church, will sing and preach on Saturday evening.
Refreshments will be available for sale throughout the weekend.  Special packages are available for those who would like to camp.  People are welcome to come for the day or the weekend.  A love offering will be taken to cover the expenses of the musicians.
“We hope that families, churches and people from all over the area will come to Beaver Run and be blessed by the peaceful surroundings, the fellowship, and the music,” Jim Savage said.
