Text Size: Small Large Medium
Downtown Statesboro will light up for the newest First Friday Downtown celebration.
This Friday, exhibits at the Averitt Center for the Arts, epicenter of First Friday, include the opening of Georgia Southern art professor Mark Moulton’s exhibit and a special performance by “Created to Worship” in the Emma Kelly Theater. Painter Willie Hendrix will also have an exhibit opening in the center’s multipurpose studio.
Several businesses downtown also have events Friday night. The Curli Willow will host gourmet food sampling, and visitors to Free Spirit Pottery can help build a glass quilt. Yard and Haus will serve lemonade and sale prices to visitors.
West Main Street Art Gallery and Studios opens this week, and on Friday night they will have a wood turning demonstration. The Gallery will also be showing various art and antiques.
Near the courthouse, Galactic Comics and Games will have Magic: The Gathering booster drafts. Bring your scatter dice, paintbrush and a lascannon, too — Galactic will host a demonstration of Warhammer 40,000 tabletop war gaming.
The French Quarter Café will host Savannah’s Jeff Beasley Trio that night. The jazz and blues combo starts at 9 p.m., and there is no cover charge. Beasley’s group includes drummer Billy Hoffman, a long-time staple of the Statesboro jazz scene.
