After a remarkable run, the East Georgia State College Bobcats' season came to an end after a 75-68 loss to the Spartanburg Methodist College Thursday night in the third round of the NJCAA national tournament in Kansas.
The Bobcats fell behind early thanks to the Pioneers' slick three-point shooting in the first half. Down by a score of 37-22, the Bobcats' Jordan Johnson hit a 3-point shot that put East Georgia on a nice run as they went in to the locker room down by a score of 39-32.
The second half saw the teams swap scores throughout.
The undefeated Pioneers continued to stretch the lead upwards of 12-15 points, but the Bobcats constantly chopped away at the deficit before Spartanburg Methodist went to work once more.
The Bobcats cut the lead down to five with less than two minutes left, but were unable to do what they had done all year: find a way to win.
The Pioneers kept plugging away and hitting their free throws, and the Bobcats couldn't hit enough shots down the stretch.
While their season is now complete, there is no doubting that the Bobcats — in just their third season of competition — have made their mark on the national scene.
