Bulloch Academy senior Mary Margaret Reeves flashes down the track in the girls' 100-meter dash Monday at Gator Alley. Reeves took second in the event (13.76), was second in the 400m dash (65.11), was a member of the winning 4x100 and 4x400m relay teams and placed fourth in the 200m dash (28.99). |

Bulloch Academy walked away from the competition in a nine-team meet during a cool, cloudy and brisk afternoon at Gator Alley Wednesday.
The Lady Gators took eight first places and notched 186 total points in their third meet of the season while the BA boys had five first and tallied 172 points. Pinewood Christian from Bellville was second in both races (128 points for the girls and 135 for the boys). Robert Toombs Christian from Lyons took third in the girls’ event (94) while Bethesda Day School from Savannah was third in the boys’ meet (74).
Sophomore Ashley Burke won three events, the 3200-meter run (12:38), the 1600m run (5:51) and the 300m hurdles (54.25). She also was a member of the winning 4x400m team of Anna Newton, Mary Margaret Reeves and Pate Lomax (4:34).
Junior Chelsea Oglesby won the shot (33-6), was second in the long jump (14-8) and ran a leg on the winning 4x100m team of Newton, Reeves and Lomax.
Lomax and Newton went 1-2 in the high jump (5-0 and 4-10 respectively) while junior Danielle Atkinson and senior Marianna Peebles did the same in the pole vault (7-0). Lomax took second in the 800m run (2:36) and sophomore Page Spence was second in the 300m hurdles (56.25). Freshman Abigail Smith was second in the discus (71-6 ½).
For the Gators, senior Harrison Averitt won the triple jump (37-3), was second in the 400m dash (55.07) and ran legs on both winning 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams. Classmate Forest Spence took the 300m hurdles (43.96), was second in the triple jump (36-7 ¼) and the 100m hurdles (17.48) and ran a leg on the 4x4 squad along with fellow seniors Themba Twala and Bailey Smith.
Freshman Hunter Perry won the high jump (5-7). Junior Daniel Hendrix was second in the 300m hurdles (45.10) and was on the first-place 4x1 foursome with Averitt, Smith and junior Matt Sheppard.
Bulloch Academy hosts the 14th annual Gator Relays this Saturday at the Georgia Southern University track and field complex near Paulson Stadium.
