SYLVANIA — Screven County tennis coach Diane Freeman won her 300th career game and the Gamecocks swept Laney, 4-1 and 5-0, Tuesday at home.
In 15 years, Freeman has compiled a record of 300-50 with the girls. Also formerly the coach of the boys, Freeman was 178-56. She has a total of 14 region titles combined over 15 years.
The Lady Gamecocks (7-2 overall, 3-0 in subregion play) clinched the No. 1 seed in the Region 3-AA tournament with a 4-1 win.
Singles players Keri Lane and Michalea Iwinski were winners, and doubles pairs of Pamela Wooten and Haley Jackson, and Laura Stuart and Victoria Winters were also winners.
None of the winners lost a single game.
The boys won, 5-0, also without allowing a single game won by Laney.
Jacob Lariscy, Ryan Bazemore and Raj Patel were singles winners, and doubles partners of Clay Kirkland and Daniel Weaver, and Dylan Koch and Zachary Weaver, finished the shutout.
The Gamecocks (5-4, 3-0 in subregion play) also clinched the No. 1 seed in the region tournament.
2nd-place Screven blanks Laney
AUGUSTA — The Screven County Lady Gamecocks got a hat trick from Hannah Thompson and dominated Laney, 7-0, Tuesday on the road.
The Gamecocks (8-2, 6-1 Region 3-AA) also got goals from Kayla Chance, Kaley Lambert, Charlie Taylor and Dana Kenp.
Assisting goals were Chance, Gillian McGilliard, Jennifer Suggs, Haleigh Thompson and Charlie Taylor.
Keeper Whitney Gay stopped Laney's only shot attempt.
The second-place Gamecocks face the third-place team in the region, Westside, Thursday at 5:30 p.m., in Sylvania.
Eagles head to Hilton Head tourney
The Georgia Southern Women's Tennis team is heading to Hilton Head, S.C., to play tennis matches against Nebraska Omaha and Kansas at the Hilton Head Beach and Tennis resort.
On Wednesday, the Eagles face off with University of Nebraska Omaha at 11:30 a.m. The Mavericks stand 3-5 and hold a 1-1 Summit League record.
