Local Roundup: BA soccer sweeps RTCA


    Bulloch Academy teams won four soccer matches in non-classification matches against Robert Toombs Christian Academy Saturday at Gator Alley.
    The varsity girls (2-4) blasted the Lady Crusaders 9-1. Cate Williams had four goals, Ashley Burke added two and Allison Anderson, Page Spence and Taylor Hankinson added one each for Bulloch. Megan Orrel had the lone score for RTCA.
    The varsity boys (2-4) blanked RTCA 9-0 despite the excellent efforts of RTCA keeper Joey Mitchell. Themba Twala had four scores, Chase Merrill added two and Derek Harrison, Ivan Chen and Logan Purvis had one each.
    In middle-school action, the Lady Gators nipped RTCA 1-0. Ava Hiller had the only score of the game. For the boys, Grant Williams netted four goals to lead BA to a 9-0 victory. Seth Brandt added two and Garrett Williams, Oliver Cope and Mason Williams had one each.
    Bulloch is back in action Monday with a quad-match with First Presbyterian Christian School of Hinesville.

SEB says no-no, twice
    BROOKLET — The Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets threw a pair of no hitters in a doubleheader on Friday against Beach.
    Keagan Carter pitched all four innings of game one, a 15-0 win, and two of three game-two innings.
    Tyler Epps pitched the final inning of the 18-0 victory.
    The Yellow Jackets return to Region 1-AAA play Tuesday at Savannah High.

GSU softball drops two
    TALLAHASSEE, FLA. – Georgia Southern Softball opened the 2013 FSU Sunshine Classic with a pair of losses to Minnesota and Florida State on Saturday afternoon.
    The Eagles fell 5-0 to the Gophers in the opener and 4-0 to the Seminoles in game two. GSU returns to play at Dr. JoAnne Graf Field on Sunday morning, facing Minnesota at 10 a.m. before playing FSU at 2 p.m.

GSU women top Davidson
    DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Georgia Southern Women's Tennis team picked up its second consecutive conference win in a 6-1 victory over foe Davidson on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles clinched the doubles point with wins on court one and three before taking five out of the six singles matches.
    Caitlin Kitchen made her first appearance again after an injury had kept her out for most of the season. The junior started off by taking the first doubles win of the day. Together with teammate Jordana Klein, Kitchen handled the Davidson doubles team with ease for a 8-1 win.
