The Statesboro Music Festival returned for its second year last weekend at the Statesboro Kiwanis Ogeechee Fairgrounds. The three-day festival welcomed spring with over 20 different musical performances from across several genres, family activities for all ages and local vendors providing their best products.
Perpetual Groove headlined this year’s festival in one of the band’s last scheduled performances before taking a hiatus. Other featured artists included Catherine Kimbro, Connor Pledger, the Daniel Johnson Band, The Deadfields, Dr. Dan Matrazzo and The Looters, Epic Cycle, Evensong, Funk You, Gerald Smith, Next Level Ensemble, The Orange Constant, Sam Sniper and School of Rock.
Also featured was the festival's inaugural Battle of the BoroQue, a competition sanctioned by both the Memphis Barbecue Network and the Georgia Barbecue Association. Statesboro native Bubba Hunt, of the professional team “Butts and Brews,” was named Grand Champion of the BoroQue, and “Bubba Grills,” a professional team from Haddock, Ga., took home the Memphis Barbeque Network Grand Champion Award for their whole hog entry.
