RINCON — A suspect whose run from authorities led to officers swarming over a Rincon apartment complex turned himself in late Sunday night.

Cori Rayshan Hines, 27, was wanted for shooting Serina Speights at her Oaks at Brandlewood apartment on Garrard Avenue in Savannah. The shooting, according to Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police, occurred around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, following a confrontation at Speights' home.
Rincon police received information later that day that Hines was at an apartment in the Effingham Parc complex off Towne Park Drive West.

"We got notified by people with direct knowledge of his involvement that he was here. That's when we went to the residence," Rincon Police Chief Phillip Scholl said.

Hines reportedly left Speights' apartment in a black Toyota Camry. A few hours later, Rincon police were advised that the Camry was in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Town Park West Drive, and Hines was in an apartment he shares with another woman.

"When the officer got there, they saw a person matching the description go into the residence, and they backed off," Scholl said.

Rincon police tried to reach Hines at the apartment and elevated the situation to a barricaded gunman standoff. Effingham County sheriff's deputies and the Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department SWAT and K9 teams, along with Rincon Fire and EMS, were brought in for assistance.
After about four hours, it was determined that Hines had left the building.

"Either he left before we got there, or he left as we got there," Scholl said. "It was very early in the notification process before we knew he was. But we had a witness who said he was there. We had very good information he was there. That's why we went through the steps we did so we wouldn't have a hostage situation or a barricaded gunman situation."

A warrant for aggravated assault was issued for Hines.

Speights was treated for her injury at Memorial University Medical Center and released later in the day.
