Local Roundup: BA sweeps St. Andrew's


    The Bulloch Academy boys and girls soccer teams both got in the win column on Tuesday, knocking off St. Andrew's.
    The boys won 3-2. Themba Twala, Ivan Chen and Chase Merrill each scored. Merril's goal came off of a penalty kick.
    Twala also recorded an assist.
    Keeper Mitchell Smith had a busy day in front of the net, and recorded 10 saves.
    The girls won, 4-1, and Cate Williams wore a hat trick with three BA goals. Tatum Blitch added the fourth score.
    Bulloch hosts two games against Hilton Head Christian on Monday.

GSU moves game to today
    KENNESAW — The baseball game between Georgia Southern and Kennesaw State, originally scheduled for Tuesday, was delayed due to thunderstorms in the area. The game will be played today at KSU.

SHS knocks off Effingham
    The Statesboro Blue Devils knocked off Effingham County, 7-3, Tuesday.
    Freshman Conner Akins had a big day, with three doubles, two runs scored and an RBI.
    Jacob Schofill knocked in a rn, and Wil Stuart was 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
    Stuart got the win, walking two and striking out two.
    Statesboro plays host to Bradwell Institute today.

SEBMS dominates Langston Chapel
    Southeast Bulloch Middle School defeated Langston Chapel, 16-0, in the region opener. Bryce Harnage and Zach Owen combined for a no hitter. At the plate Harnage was 3-for-4. Cole Mincey and Joe Ham were 2-3.

SCHS sweeps WHS
    SYLVANIA — Screven County swept Westside, Augusta, Tuesday in tennis action.
    The boys, who won, 5-0, got wins from Daniel Weaver (6-1, 6-0), Ryan Bazemore (6-0, 6-0) and doubles pair Dylan Koch and Zachary Weaver 6-1, 6-0.
    Westside, the defending Region 3-AAA champion, forfeited the other two matches.
    The Lady Gamecocks won 4-1, and got wins from Mallorie Boswell, Jancey Durrence and doubles pairs Pamela Wooten and Kari Lane, and Haley Jackson and Victoria Winters.
