Georgia Southern didn’t do itself any favors, committing five errors which accounted for four unearned Georgia Tech runs, and the Eagles lost to the No. 16 Yellow Jackets for the second-straight night, falling 14-8, Wednesday, at J.I. Clements Stadium.
    Trailing 9-4, the Eagles got back into it with a four spot in the bottom of the fourth.
    Ben Morgan hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to drive in Cole Watson, and Chase Griffin lined a two-run single to right center. Griffin scored when T.D. Davis hit the second of two RBI doubles, this one off the wall in center, to leave the Eagles trailing, 9-8.
    Tech added another run in the seventh to give itself a two-run edge, and made it 11-8 in the eighth with an RBI double by Brandon Thomas.
    Each team led twice in the first three innings.
    Tech led things off with a sacrifice fly by Thomas, and the Eagles answered with three runs in the bottom of the first. Davis roped a two-run double to left center, and scored on a single by designated hitter Garren Palmer.
    The Yellow Jackets tied the game in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly by Matt Gonzalez and a wild series of events that got Zane Evans home.
    With Evans on third and Mott Hyde on first, Hyde appeared to be picked off when he was hung up between first and second by a throw from GSU pitcher Evan Challenger to Davis.
    Evans scored while Hyde, who appeared to be tagged for the third out, was ruled safe at first.
    Evans (2-for-3, 2 BB, 3 R) pitched two innings of scoreless relief, and hit a solo home run in Tech’s two-run ninth.
    It was his third homer in the last two days.
    With the score tied, 3-3, the Eagles answered again. Kyle Streicher led off the bottom of the second with a lazy pop fly that fell harmlessly into shallow left for a double. Streicher scored on a single by Griffin.
    Disaster struck in the third when Georgia Tech scored four runs – only one earned – on three GSU errors, to go up, 7-4.
    The Jackets tacked on two more in the fourth with solo home runs by Sam Dove and Daniel Palka.
    The Eagles return to action Friday when they host Xavier in the first of a three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
NOTES: Arthur Owens, starting in right field in place of injured Hunter Thomas, left the game in the bottom of the first when he collapsed after a groundout with what appeared to be a cramp. He was replaced by Zac Lenns, who was later pinch hit for by Stryker Brown. … Announced attendance was 2,024.
