'Star Search' Saturday at Averitt

It’s not everyday that you can gather talented people from across Bulloch County and put them into one building for one night, but that’s just what’s going to take place Saturday in the Emma Kelly Theater.
Averitt Stars Community Theater, is presenting the Third Annual Averitt Star Search. The show will showcase the best of Bulloch and surrounding counties’ singers, dancers, actors, comedians, poets and more.
The Averitt Star Search was organized and created by the local singer Arnetta Parker.
“We use the talent show as a fundraiser for future community theater shows,” said Parker.
Proceeds from the talent show will be used for stage props, costumes and other materials needed for the upcoming shows.
There will be three age categories ranging from 12-15, 16-18, and 18 and up.  New to this year’s show will be a Spokes Model category for women ages 16-21.
“This will give aspiring young models the chance to compete as well, just like the Star Search TV show,” said Parker.
Spokes Model prizes will include a discounted rate for studio time at a Savannah modeling agency. Cash and other awards will be given to the various age categories.
Special guest Magic Marc from “The Magic Marc Show," a family-oriented children's show on WTOC-TV, will appear during the show to perform various magic tricks.  Magic Marc uses his TV show to create "Magication," his own word for combining magic and education for kids.
Sandi Kirkland will serve as this year's Mistress of Ceremonies. Kirkland, a native of Statesboro, has served on the Miss Altamaha Scholarship Pageant Board, a division of the Miss Georgia Pageant System for Miss America, and has judged several pageants in recent years.
“We hope this show will be bigger and better than the previous two; Statesboro has so much talent but some people are just afraid to show it,” said Parker.
The show will take place on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person.  Call the Averitt Center for the Arts at (912) 212-ARTS(2787) for more information or stop by the gift shop located inside the Emma Kelly Theater between 1-5pm to purchase your tickets.
