Local Roundup: Statesboro edges Mustangs, stays perfect in region play


    GUYTON — The Statesboro Blue Devils (17-3, 3-0 Region 3A-AAAA) stayed undefeated in region play and got a 39-31 road win over South Effingham (9-9, 0-3) on Friday.
    Yakeem Coleman (8 points) and Johnathan Taylor (7 points) led Statesboro offensively.
    The Blue Devils return to action today when they host Burke County in a doubleheader beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Lady Devils' upset bid falls short
    GUYTON — The Statesboro Lady Blue Devils led unbeaten South Effingham (17-0, 3-0 Region 3A-AAAA) by a point with two minutes to go, but the Lady Mustangs closed out with a run and knocked off SHS, 66-58, on Friday.
    Kyera Whitaker paced Statesboro (15-6, 2-1) with 18 points.

Metter sweeps Bacon County
    ALMA — The Metter Tigers swept Bacon County in Region 2A-AA action on Friday.
    The Lady Tigers opened the evening with a 43-37 win, led by Alicia Kelly's 18 points.
    The Metter boys (7-10, 3-5) won, 49-40.
    Trent Thomas paced the Tigers with 20 points.
    Metter travels to Vidalia for a doubleheader on Tuesday.
