Jackets still playing hard

Southeast Bulloch returns to Brooklet tonight to face the Wildcats of Laney in a 3-AA showdowwn.
Despite a 1-5 record (0-3 in region play), SEB head coach Mike Ward said his team remains upbeat.
"For a 1-5 team, the attitude is still positive," said Ward. "They still love playing the game and are still playing for hard. For me, it's hard to get down on them when they're like that."
The Yellow Jackets have lost four in a row since a Sept. 8 win over Portal. They welcome a Laney team that is, according to Ward, "Big, fast, stong, well-coached and very athletic."
Laney (4-2) beat Screven County last week 12-7 and stands at 2-1 in region play. They'll welcome back their quarterback to the field and look to spread the ball around through the air.
"We've tweaked the defense," said Ward. "We've thrown a couple of different coverages in there to try and stop their passing attack."
Linebacker Jonathan Lanier will be back in the line-up for an SEB defense that gave up three plays of over 50 yards in last week's loss to Josey in Augusta.
Offensively, SEB was able to move the ball consistently against Josey, but was hit with penalties and turnovers — an ongoing problem for the Jackets this season.
Southeast has also stepped up their conditioning program this week to try and combate opponents wearing the Jackets down.
The Jackets have scored more than one touchdown in just one game this season while the Wildcats are allowing just under 10 per contest.
    Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
