A Brunswick man was killed early Monday morning as he tried to cross a busy highway near the Bulloch-Jenkins county line.
Jenkins County Coroner Henry Young said Tuesday that David Lawrence, 60, was wearing dark jeans and a tan jacket when he stepped into traffic around 5:55 a.m. on U.S. Highway 25 near Gay’s Hill Church Road.
A driver in a Nissan Altima struck Lawrence, who was pronounced dead at the scene, Young said.
Georgia State Patrol Post 21 troopers responded to the scene and investigated the accident, but a radio operator answering the phone at the post Monday said reports were incomplete and would not be available until Wednesday.
Young said no charges will be filed against the driver of the vehicle.
Lawrence died from blunt force trauma injuries sustained in the accident. It is not known why Lawrence was walking along the highway, Young said.

Holli Deal Bragg may be reached at (912) 489-9414.
