County Commissioners vote to use load to build municipal hangar at airport

Text Size: Small Large Medium
Bulloch County Commissioners voted Tuesday to seek "short term financing" of $425,000 to construct a corporate hangar at the Statesboro-Bulloch County Municipal Airport, said Bulloch County Manager Tom Couch. The loan will be repaid by using Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) money, and the loan is a five-year lease purchase at 7.3 percent interest, he said. However, the hangar could provide rental income, if not from corporate jets overflowing from the Savannah area, then from smaller planes, he said.  There is a waiting list for owners of smaller planes seeking locations to store their planes, he said. The hangar, when completed, " should pay for itself pretty quickly"  and income from the hangar would be used towards the loan, Couch said. Commissioners expect to repay the loan within three and a half years. Bids are expected to be received by the first August commission meeting and may be considerably lower than the loan amount, he said.
