Local Roundup: SHS avenges lone loss


    SPRINGFIELD — Statesboro got some sweet revenge Tuesday night as it avenged its only loss of the season, taking down Effingham County by a score of 52-40 in Springfield.
    Hampered by cramps in the teams’ first meeting, Zaquavian Smith was a force for the Blue Devils (4-1) throughout the night as he led all scorers with 16 points.
    O’Aaron Ware poured in eight for Statesboro while Alex Simmons, Jonathan Taylor and Yakeem Coleman all scored five.
    Jakeenan Gant led the Rebels (3-1) with 14 points. Jay Wright also scored in double digits, registering 10 in the losing effort.
    The Devils will be back in action Saturday as they travel to Bradwell Institute.


Lady Gators stay undefeated
    SAVANNAH — The Bulloch Academy Lady Gators improved to 8-0 on the season with a dominant, 58-12, road win at Saint Andrew's on Tuesday.
    Anna Newton led the Gators with 20 points. Chelsea Oglesby added 12 and Lauren Dennard scored 9. The Gators return to action on Friday at home against Frederica at 6 p.m.
    Friday afternoon, the Bulloch B-team girls defeated St. Andrew's 27-8.
    Mimi Rasenberger led the way with 13 points.

BA holds off St. Andrew's
    SAVANNAH — The Bulloch Academy Gators held off St. Andrew's, 44-41, Tuesday on the road.
    Forest Spence, the team's leading scorer with 16 points, made a layup in the final minute to seal the win.
    Ross Rainey added nine points for the Gators (3-0), who return to the court Friday at home against Frederica at 7:30 p.m.
