DOT names Boro's Ron Nelson area engineer

      Georgia Department of Transportation District Engineer, Karon Ivery announces the appointment of Ron Nelson to the position of area engineer for Area Six Region serving Candler, Bulloch, Evans and Effingham counties.
      Nelson will be responsible for overseeing the construction and maintenance activities on all state routes and Interstate 16 in the four counties of the Area Six Region for the Southeast Georgia's District Five.
      After graduating from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Nelson began his career at DOT in 1995 in the Savannah area, where he worked for 10 years in construction then promoted to assistant area engineer of construction in the Glennville Area Office.He transferred into maintenance in 2007 and served in the Statesboro Area Office as the assistant area engineer of maintenance.
      Nelson lives in Statesboro with his wife Audra. They are parents of three children Anna, Grace and Will. Nelson is a member of First Baptist Church Statesboro and volunteers as a coach for the Statesboro Bulloch County Parks and Recreation. nelson and his family are avid Georgia Southern football fans. Nelson is also the current President of the Jesup District Chapter of the Georgia DOT Engineers Association.
      "Ron brings a wealth of knowledge from both his construction and maintenance experience, which is a valuable asset for the Georgia Department of Transportation in providing service to the communities in Southeast Georgia," said District Engineer Karon Ivery.
