The driver of an 18-wheeler took a curve too fast Tuesday morning and flipped when his load shifted.
Willie C. Plummer, 58, of Old Louisville Road in Garden City, was hauling a load of large rolls of paper destined for Savannah when he took a right turn off U.S. Highway 80, traveling east, onto Veterans Memorial Parkway, said Sgt. Brad Mosier, the commander of Georgia State Patrol Post 45.
Plummer overturned the 2003 Freightliner around 9:30 a.m., Mosier said.
In the past 18 months, troopers have investigated three such accidents in that very location, he said. “Since I’ve been here, I’ve worked three accidents where tractor trailers overturned there, and it was all the same scenario.”
One truck was hauling pine logs when it overturned, scattering logs over the intersection.
The second truck, like Plummer’s truck Tuesday, was carrying large rolls of paper, he said.
Mosier said Plummer believes a tire blew on his rig, but Mosier said excessive speed in making the turn, causing the load to shift, likely caused the overturn.
No one was injured in the accident, and according to reports, Plummer was not charged.
