A man is behind bars in Chatham County after a car stolen from Statesboro during the summer was recovered in Pooler earlier this week, Statesboro police said.
The vehicle was reported stolen at 2:19 p.m. July 20 from Clyde's No. 37, 1609 Fair Road. On Tuesday, the vehicle was recovered by the Pooler Police Department during a traffic stop there, Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said in a news release issued Thursday.
The driver, Thomas Jefferson Terrell, was arrested by Pooler police on traffic charges and outstanding warrants issued by Investigator Clay Gracen from the Statesboro Police Department's Crime Suppression Unit.
The outstanding warrants issued for Terrell stem from a drug investigation that began in November. The charges from the drug investigation are sale of methadone and unlawful use of communications facilities, Turner said.
On Wednesday, Statesboro police Detective Tommy Brown issued additional arrest warrants for theft by taking motor vehicle after Terrell was identified as the suspect who stole the vehicle on July 20 from Clyde's, Turner said.
Thomas is being held in the Chatham County Jail pending further court action.
