Police have identified a second suspect in Saturday's early-morning homicide and are working to identify a third man believed to have been involved in the shooting that left one man dead, and another man and a woman wounded.
Statesboro Police investigators issued an arrest warrant late Monday for Bryan Lazarus Hughley, 35, Waycross, who along with Marcus Maurice Benbow, 39, Waycross, is wanted for involvement in the shooting death of Corey Oneil Walker, 21, and the shooting of Chalandria McClouden, 30, and James L. Williams, 43, both of Statesboro, said Statesboro Police Capt. L. C. Williams.
A third man is suspected in the incident, but investigators are still seeking information and have not yet released his identity, said Det. Tommy Brown.
The suspects, who are believed to have come to Statesboro for the purpose of buying drugs, were possibly trying to rob the victims, he said. Brown and Det. James Winskey are conducting the investigation into the shooting, which took place just before 1 a.m. Saturday at an Orange Street home.
All three victims were in the home when the suspects opened fire, he said. Walker was struck twice, once in the stomach area and once in the upper torso. Autopsy results from the Georgia Bureau of Investigations crime lab listed Walker's death as a homicide. He was pronounced dead after arrival at East Georgia Regional Medical Center Saturday morning.
McClouden, who suffered injury from bullet fragments, and Williams, who was also shot twice, were transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, where they are listed in "stable but guarded condition," Capt. Williams said.
The Georgia Department of Corrections Internet web site  (www.dcor.state.ga.us) did not list Hughley as having a criminal record, but Benbow is listed as having prior convictions of battery/family violence, simple battery and cocaine possession.
A lookout was posted for both men, and law enforcement was warned they could be armed and are considered dangerous. The men could possibly be traveling between Statesboro and Waycross in a dark blue Dodge Intrepid, Capt. Williams said.
Benbow is described as a black male around 5'6" tall, weighing about 160 pounds, with a light complexion, thick moustache and beard. Hughley is described as 6', around 165 pounds, and has a thin moustache and beard. His hair is braided in rows.
"Detectives of the Statesboro Police Department are still gathering evidence and following all leads as this investigation continues," Capt. Williams said. "Anyone with information in this incident should contact the Statesboro Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division at 912-764-1542. All information received will be held in strict confidence."
