Horace Harrell

This recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award is both a hands-on servant leader and a man with the vision to dream of things not yet realized.
This man understands the importance of consistence and perseverance, which will become evident when considering his remarkable attendance record with one of Bulloch County's hardest-working civic clubs.
Our recipient was born in Louisville, the son of a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was valedictorian of his class at Wadley High School. He would go on to receive a bachelor's degree from Georgia Southern, then earn a master's and Ph.D from the University of Georgia.
This man began teaching at Georgia Southern in 1972 and retired 30 years later as a professor of accounting in GSU's College of Business Administration. During his tenure, our honoree served as faculty advisor for Beta Alpha Psi, the honorary society for accounting students, and was one of the persons responsible for starting the society at Georgia Southern.
He was also faculty advisor for Beta Gamma Sigma, an honorary society for business students. The group later awarded him their Distinguished Service Award.
Our recipient became a member of the Statesboro Kiwanis Club 33 years ago. Since then, he has served on numerous committees in this hard-working, energetic club, including serving as club president in 2007-2008. He currently serves as lieutenant governor for the 22nd Division, where he provides outstanding leadership and nurturing to some of the smaller, struggling clubs in his division.
Here is how consistent our honoree is: He now has 29 years of perfect attendance with Kiwanis and he is working on number 30. In 2003, our recipient was named a Kiwanis International George F. Hixon Fellow. In 2009, his fellow club members named him Kiwanian of the Year.
He has been an ordained deacon for over 30 years and currently serves as a deacon and teaches a Bible study class at Lawrence Baptist Church.
Unselfish, kind-hearted, public spirited - all this and much more.
Horace Harrell is well deserving of a Lifetime Achievement Award.
