Brampton, bypass to get traffic light

Council meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday

Adding a traffic light will top the agenda when the Statesboro City Council’s meets in City Hall for its second, and last, scheduled meeting in April.
Council, along with Mayor Joe Brannen and City Manager Frank Parker, will convene in the building’s second floor chambers at 6 p.m. to conduct city business and mull over a short list of items slated for their consideration.
Chief among the agenda items is a motion to award a $357,864.75 contract to Reeves Construction Co. to implement intersection improvements and install a traffic signal at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Parkway and Brampton Avenue.
The SPLOST funded project is “seriously needed” by the city, according to Statesboro City Engineer Robert Cheshire.
Officials will also examine a pair of zoning amendments during the session.
Gentilly Gardens, LLC will request that a 2.03-acre tract of land at 625 Gentilly Road be rezoned as a Commercial Retail property (currently Single Family Residential) to allow for future expansion of an assisted living facility.
Gopher Hole Investments, LLC will seek a commercial retail zoning for a 1.1-acre tract on Brampton Avenue for future development. The currently bare piece of land is located at the corner of Brampton and Bermuda Run in the city’s Market District.
The lone other motion for council consideration is a second reading for an alcohol license at Bunz Restaurant. The establishment, located at 1830 Chandler Road, aims to be licensed as a sports restaurant, selling alcohol Monday through Saturday.
