GSU student killed in Marietta

Cobb County police investigating as homicide

Georgia Southern University spokesperson Loretta Brandon verified Wednesday that a man killed Tuesday in Marietta was enrolled at the university.
    Chen Yin Chang, 22, Marietta, was found dead of a gunshot wound late Tuesday morning, according to reports. Cobb County police responding to a report of a "person down" near a building at Wood Chase Village Apartments, off Terrell Mill Road, found Chang dead of a gunshot wound to the head, according to Cobb County Police spokeswoman Cassie Reece.  According to reports, police had yet to determine a motive for the shooting and are investigating the death as a homicide.
    Brandon said Wednesday she could only confirm Chang was from Marietta and was a GSU student.

Statesboro man arrested for car theft
    An 18-year-old Statesboro man was arrested Tuesday for taking a car from Franklin Chevrolet, said Statesboro Police Capt. L. C. Williams.  An employee of the business reported a white 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo stolen May 24. Det. Kelphie Lundy began an investigation that led to evidence showing Larry Ernest Lawton, 18, Sandy Way, was responsible, he said. Lawton, arrested on charges of theft by taking motor vehicle, was taken to the Bulloch County Jail, where he was later released on a $5,000 bond, according to jail records.

Local man arrested for first degree forgery
    Statesboro Police arrested a man they say forged a check at Fast & Easy last March. Det. Ken Scott opened an investigation and gathered evidence leading to the arrest of Antonio Derrell Mikell, 25 , Hope Baptist Church Road, Clito. Mikell was arrested Monday at a Park Place apartment and charged with first degree forgery, a felony offense, said Statesboro Police Capt. L. C. Williams, criminal investigations division commander. He is being held in the Bulloch County Jail without bond, according to jail records.
